Upfield is the largest plant-based consumer product company in the world with products sold in over 95 countries. Blue Band, one of its flagship brands, has been around since 1923 and is considered an iconic brand in many countries across Africa and Asia. Blue Band is on a mission to drive awareness around the importance of a nutritious breakfast for all school going children across its markets starting in Africa where a quarter of the world’s children live. On December 5th Tim Verbeek and MRCBG Senior Fellow Myriam Sidibe will talk about this multi-award-winning program, the lessons learned and how it is having a positive impact on people, the planet and profit; the only true sustainable business model. Tim Verbeek, former Vice President for Unilever Africa, now General Manager for Upfield Africa, Middle East & Asia moved to Upfield from Unilever in July 2018. Verbeek has had several local, regional and global category and marketing management roles within Unilever, Unilever Professional and Heineken before he was tasked to setup the new integrated business across all emerging markets in Africa and Asia for Upfield. Verbeek was the initiator of the Blue Band Breakfast program in 2016 and is still today its key sponsor.
